Novel properties of multi-poled piezoelectric network structures

We present the piezoelectric properties of multi-poled network microstructures based on cross, Gibson-Ashby and face-centred cubic base cells at a range solid fractions with different polarisation profiles. Piezoelectric are determined via computational homogenisation finite element method. Each profile is triple-poled, so it includes material poled in x, y z directions. The result this that homogenised have fully non-zero coefficients voltage constants. show axial components effective constant g11, g22, g33 can be vastly improved by ensuring struts to match their orientation, for example should z-poled within strut parallel axis. novel extensions commonly used figures merit single-poled materials relevant case. use these extended identify structures excellent sensor hydrophone applications. Furthermore, when varying fraction given microstructure, we hydrostatic sensitivity meta-material increases as acoustic impedance decreases. This property unusual near impossible obtain using bulk material. Due highly sensitive response full coefficients, such meta-materials could utilised next generation hydrophones, sensors, or other electromechanical devices.
